Sewing for Adults (BAKERSFIELD)

Have you always wanted to learn to sew? Or have you recently found an interest and a want to give it a try? Cherry Berry Quilts is offering a 5 day class, with machines provided, to give you the chance to see if sewing is for you.
This course is a set of five classes designed to get you comfortable with the Bernette Academy 05 sewing machine (A great beginner machine that will be provided to students for the duration of the class) and teach you pattern layout, cutting skills, essential construction skills and finishing techniques. Fundamentals taught will help students develop necessary confidence for bag and garment making, preparing them to move forward with whatever inspires them.

CLASS #1 Projects: Lanyard and Tote Bag: 

. Operate and control your sewing machine 

. Thread your sewing machine/winding a bobbin/changing a needle

. Tackle common mistakes and problems with your machine. Sew straight lines 

. Sew basic seam allowance 

. Finish Seams 

. Topstitch professionally 

Class #2 Pillowcase and Composition Book Cover 

Class #3 Zipper pouch and Basic Boxed Pouch

Class #4-5 Garment Sewing: Carolyn Pajamas Bottoms or Shorts

Sewing of clothing requires taking body measurements to determine pattern size. Measurements are taken over the student’s clothing and a restroom is provided for complete privacy. Students will learn about body measurements, grainline, woven vs non-woven fabrics, reading a pattern envelope, reading a guide sheet, selection of fabrics, notions and interfacing. Pattern layout, pinning and cutting followed by guided construction of a Project will complete the Adult Sewing Series.
