Beginning Sewing (BAKERSFIELD)

Beginning sewing is a first step in trying a new hobby. If you've ever wanted to try or learn to sew, this class is for you. All students will be provided with sewing machines for class use and basic supplies, such as scissors and pins, are available for use. The machine we will be learning on is the Baby Lock Joy - it's a great introduction machine to get started on!

Classes will work on going over the machine and machine basics, with skill building practices before jumping into further skill building projects.

Over the course of the class, students will learn how to thread and use the Joy, will work on sewing straight lines, and make 4 projects.

*Students will need to buy their fabrics and apron pattern before classes start. Cotton fabrics are recommended for all projects. It is a super easy fabric to work with for beginners.

Day 1: Machine introduction and practice, Pillow Case
Day 2: Start Tote Bag 
Day 3: Tote Bag and Boxed Pouch
Day 4: Continue working on Apron 

Supplies:

Baby Lock Joy Machines will be provided for in class use!
Thread in a neutral color or color to match fabrics
2 fat quarters for boxy pouch (1 inside and 1 outside)
2/3 yard of heat-N-Bond fusible Lite
1 - 14" or bigger zipper (Be sure it is nylon coils)
3/4 yard of decor-bond (one side fusible)
1/2 yard of tote fabric 1
3/4 yard for tote fabric 2 and straps
1 yard of Two fabrics for the Apron
3/4 yard of main pillow fabric
1/4 yard for pillow cuff
1/8 yard for pillow trim

Fabric marking pen 
A ruler of some kind, 12" minimum 
A rotary cutter (45mm or 60mm) and mat 
A 8 1/2" X 24 1/2" Creative Grid ruler for cutting fabrics
Personal pins and pincushion
Fabric Scissors
