Hand Applique: Notting Hill Quilt (BAKERSFIELD)



Learn how to create large simple flower shapes with the Notting Hill quilt pattern using the freezer paper/starch method and hand applique sewing techniques. Although the original pattern is for raw edge applique, this pattern is great for learning hand applique skills. See class sample in the shop! Create a template from pattern, prep applique for turning raw edge, and hand sewing with fine staw needles. Focus is on learning how to create lovely large flowers with gentle curves and hand applique stitching.

First Class - Review pattern, choose fabrics, make freezer paper templates

Second Class - Prep templates to fabrics, and cut backgrounds

Third Class - Create applique pieces for blocks 1 & 3

Fourth Class - Continue applique pieces for bloacks 2, 4, & 5. Making pieced bloakcs according to pattern. *BRING SEWING MACHINE for this class only*

Supply List:
Notting Hill Quilt pattern by Abbey Lane Quilts. 
Freezer paper
make TWO copies of each flower (1-5) in pattern and bring to class
Best Press Starch in small jar (1-4 oz)
Paper glue stick
Roxanne's Glue baste it
Paper scissors
small task iron
curved fabric scissors
omnigrid folting iron mat
ruler/cutting mat/rotary cutter
1/4" and 1/2" bias maker by clover
small task lamp
pencil
applique pins (optional)
Fab Five Ruler by Abbey Lane quilts
Silk thread to match shapes or 80wt cotton thread
#11 straw needles
NO FUSIBLE WEB REQUIRED

Fabric Requirements:
(5) Background fabrics - 1/2 yard each
(9) Fat quarters for pieced blocks
Stems 10" x 13" green
SEE PATTERN for FABRIC requirements for each Flower (1-5)
Border Fabric - 1 yard depending on preference (optional)
Binding - 1/2 yard
Backing 5 1/2 yards (4 1/2 yards if no border added)
